Calling all 5th Grade Doctors!
Body Systems Project:
You have a very important task at hand! You and your group are working as doctors for Spectrum Health Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. You have received a list of symptoms that your patient is experiencing. Your job is very important and someone's health is at stake. The following is a step by step process for finding a proper diagnosis for your patient!
1. Group contract:
-Teamwork is a must! Everyone in the group will agree to the conditions of your group contract. Everyone will need to be working 100% of the time.
2. Symptom's card:
-Your group will read through the patient's symptoms and make sure everyone is clear on what symptoms need to be addressed when starting the research.
3. Research:
-Each member of your team will research each of the 7 body systems that are in your research packet (digestive, respiratory, circulatory, excretory, nervous, muscular, and skeletal).
-You will need to fill out all of the information on each body system even if you discover that your patient's symptoms don't involve that particular system. You goal is to be knowledgeable in how the body systems interact with one another.
-Your group will communicate through this research process as to which systems are being impacted by the symptoms.
-Once your group narrows in on the specific system under attack, you and your teammates will dig deeper into that specific system.
4. Diagnosis:
-Your goal is to first diagnose the illness.
-Write a detailed summary of this illness and how it's impacting the body systems (look for connections to the other systems that are also hurting because of this illness). Make sure to include the specific organs or parts of the system that are directly affected.
5. Presentation:
-Your team will present your diagnosis to a panel of health experts.
-Your information will be displayed on a Powerpoint slide. It will include the information in step 4 as well as a picture to visually represent the body system under attack.
-You will share your thoughts in how to help this patient live a healthy life beyond this diagnosis.
You are capable of doing great things! Someone's health is at risk and you have the opportunity to give them hope and a healthier future! Good luck, ask questions when you need help but trust that the information you need is in the research!
